The situation on Monday, however, was under control and all pumps were working properly, he claimed.Sisamau nullah drops around 140 mld effluent of the city into river Ganga per day. The river pollution unit had first controlled around 80 mld effluent by establishing a pumping station at Baqar Mandi and remaining 60 mld was stopped at VIP Road pumping station, further diverting the nullah to Jajmau CETP. He said water flow at that time in the nullah was too much and sudden closure of motors broke the rhythm of pumping of effluent to Jajmau CETP. KANPUR: Tall claims of the river pollution control unit of Jal Nigam of taming the Sisamau nullah proved a lie on Sunday, when the system collapsed for about 10 minutes and lakhs of litres of untreated water from the nullah overflowed and fell into river Ganga at Bhairanv Ghat. The incident took place around 11 am, when electric supply to the nullah pumping station got interrupted, resulting in abrupt shutdown of all four pumping motors.“The deputed staff failed to respond immediately. It took around 10 minutes to trigger the generators, 30 minutes to start all four pumps and around 45 minutes in restoring the normal functioning of the pumping stations,” officials said.“However, by the time functioning was restored, the nullah severely polluted the river by spilling lakhs of litres of untreated sewage waste into it,” they added.Project manager Ghanshyam Dwivedi said power supply was restored in an hour but during that period nullah effluent passed into the river as there was overflow in the channel.
