Custodial death: SHO, 2 constables suspended

Alleging that deceased, Muneshwar, was tortured to death, his family members on Sunday gheraoed the police station and demanded action against the policemen on duty.According to family members of the deceased, Muneshwar was detained on Wednesday. "Churkhi cops came to the house and took him away," said Muneshwar's father Vakil Singh. KANPUR: Three policemen, including a station house officer, were suspended after a 35-year-old man allegedly died in police custody in Jalaun on Sunday, four days after he was arrested in a theft case.The move came after the police lodged an FIR of abetment to suicide against SHO and two constables of Churkhi police station. "They didn't tell us about the reason of his arrest. The policemen tortured him in the lockup that resulted in his death," alleged Singh.. "SHO Churkhi claimed that Muneshwar had attempted suicide in the police station's bathroom during wee hours of Sunday following which he was taken to the district hospital where he died," said SP Swami Prasad.Later, the SP met family members of the deceased and assured them of a fair probe.
