Food security teams raid sweet shops

Kanpur: Teams of the food security and drug administration department on Monday raided sweet shops of the city in different locations and collected as many as 19 samples of sweets. The teams collected samples of sweets, milk products, mawa, milk and sweets made by besan (gram flour), said assistant commissioner food (2) Vijay Singh. He said that the raids were made to discourage sweet traders from adulterating food items as their department had received reports that adulterated sweets were being prepared for the Raksha Bandhan festival. On the directions of commissioner, food security and drug administration Lucknow, a special campaign to check adulteration is going on. All the samples have been sent to the lab and on the basis of its report action would be taken against the erring traders, he added. TNN
