Head constable attacked with sticks, injured critically

Kanpur: A head constable suffered critical wounds when two motorcycle-borne miscreants attacked him with sticks and bricks in Bilhaur area of the district, late Monday night. According to police, the constable, returning after dinner and in plain clothes at the time of the incident, was also robbed of cash and a mobile phone. With the help of surveillance, police launched search to arrest the assailants. The head constable, identified as Mohammad Murtaza, was admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital from Bilhaur Community Health Center, where he was initially taken for medical aid. He is undergoing treatment in the ICU of LLR.FIRs for attempt to murder and robbery have been registered against both assailants. DCP Vijay Dhull said the incident took place near Kamsan village of Bilhaur. Head constable Mohammad Murtaza is posted in PRV in Kakwan police station area of the district.Dhull said assailants who attacked the policeman have been identified as Rahul Kumar and Vishal Yadav, residents of Kamsan village.An FIR for robbery and attempt to murder has been registered against both and separate police teams are conducting search to arrest them, he said. The DCP added, His two friends had dinner with him. The constable was not able to identify the miscreants. We are trying to find out if they had any dispute with the constables friends. The constable, Vinoth Kumar, would borrow his superiors phone and note the pattern lock, later using it to transfer money to his wifes account. The fraud was only discovered when the superiors family attempted to withdraw money from the account.
