Two minors accuse astrologer of sodomy

Kanpur: The police, on Friday, arrested an astrologer Tarun Sharma on the charges of sodomising two minors.The FIR was lodged against him after the minors, who were earlier arrested for theft at Sharmas house, levelled allegations of sodomy against the latter. The two had reportedly decamped with cash and jewellery from Sharmas house worth Rs 10 lakh. The two maintained that the astrologer had sodomised them and to avenge the same they committed theft in his house.Assistant commissioner of police Babupurwa Santosh Singh said the astrologer has been arrested after lodging a case against him under section 377 (Unnatural offences) of IPC and Pocso Act.To recall, two teenagers had visited astrologer Tarun Sharma at his place in Govindnagar on the night of October 2 to get their horoscope reading. According to Sharma, the boys drugged him and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from his house after which he filed a complaint with the police. During the investigation, the police found a viral video showing the two boys with the money stolen from Sharmas place in a hotel room of Ayodhya. Police traced their location with the help of surveillance and nabbed them on Thursday.During interrogation, they both accused the astrologer of sodomising them.They told the police that when they protested, Sharma threatened to bhasm (incinerate) them. To take revenge, they stole cash and valuables from Sharmas house after intoxicating him. The boys further told the police that the astrologer had even lured them with an offer of a hefty sum if they bring new boys every day.ACP Babupurwa Santosh Singh said, One of the boys is 17-year-old while the other is 17 years and six months old.Joint commissioner of police Anand Prakash Tiwari said that two FIRs have been registered in Govind Nagar police station. One report is of theft lodged by the astrologer in whose house theft was committed and the second was filed by the minor thieves accusing the astrologer of doing objectionable acts with them, which comes under the category of crime. Action is being taken in this matter as per the law. The police were able to track down the boys through e-surveillance and recovered cash and mobile phones from them. The theft occurred when the boys visited the astrologer to know their future and stole cash, jewelry, and phones. This incident adds to a series of recent thefts and crimes happening across the country.Escape of accused from Kateya police station: CBI arrests two officers of Bihar PoliceA sub inspector (SI) and an assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Bihar Police have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged escape of an accused from a police station in Gopalganj district. The SI and ASI were the station house officer and the investigation officer respectively at the time of the incident. The CBI has been granted a five-day remand for further interrogation. The case was transferred to the CBI after the high court detected irregularities in the police investigation.
