SI dead, seven injured as auto topples

Kanpur: In yet another road accident, a sub-inspector was killed while seven others were injured when a speeding autorickshaw overturned after hitting a bike near Paras crossing on the Mughal Road in Ghatampur area of the district on Sunday. Police sent all injured to the Ghatampur community health centre.Seeing the critical condition of the five injured, including the sub-inspector, the doctors referred them to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital in Kanpur. The SI, however, died on the way to the hospital.Shivpal Singh (55), resident of Oriya village of the district, was posted as a sub-inspector in Naraini police station of Banda district. Recently, he had come home to his native village on leave.After his vacation, he was on way to Naraini in Banda on bike to join duty on Sunday. As soon as he reached in front of a private school on Jahanabad road, a speeding auto overturned and hitting his bike. Apart from bike rider sub-inspector Shivpal Singh, the passengers in the autorickshaw sustained serious wounds too. They were rushed to Ghatampur CHC, from where they were referred to LLR hospital in Kanpur, but the SI died on the way. Meanwhile, police station in charge Ghatampur Vikram Singh said the body of the sub-inspector had been sent for post-mortem. Police suspect that the driver may have fallen asleep, leading to the accident.At Narela sub-city, an educational hub in the makingLieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to develop Narela sub-city in Delhi into an educational hub by providing land to universities and institutions. The aim is to transform Narela into the largest sub-city in the capital and develop it on the lines of Dwarka. The DDA has already allocated land to the National Institute of Technology, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, and the National Institute of Homeopathy. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and Delhi Teachers University will also be allotted land for their campuses. The LG has also emphasized the need to improve connectivity and infrastructure in the area.
