Kanpur: An anti-corruption bureau team caught SHO of Collectorganj police station, Ram Janam Gautam, accepting Rs 50,000 bribe on Monday. The SHO was suspended with immediate effect and a departmental inquiry was been ordered into the matter. According to reports, Gautam had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in exchange to support eviction of tenants from a residential property, but the deal was finalised at Rs 50,000.A team of the anti-corruption bureau arrested Gautam from his official residence in Karachi Khana on Monday evening, said joint commissioner of police, Anand Prakash Tiwari.He said the SHO had demanded bribe from Narendra Gupta in lieu to help get his house vacated by tenants. It also came to fore that the SHO had promised the complainant to investigate the matter and file a report in his favour, said police. Police said on information from sleuths of the anti-corruption organisation, SHO was taken to Kotwali police station for interrogation and a case was also booked against him. Tiwari ordered suspension of Gautam and also initiated a departmental inquiry against him. Police said during his posting at Sisamau police station, Gautams name had come up in the matter of giving protection to encroachers of a disputed building, after which he was removed from Sisamau and given charge of Collectorganj police station.
