Kanpur: Garvit Jain from Ghaziabad and Sanskriti Yadav from Prayagraj won the boys and girls championship of Under – 19 state-level chess tournament respectively. The tournament concluded at Harmilap Mission school Barra on Thursday.Mohd Ismail Siddiqui of Prayagraj and Tushita Gupta of Agra secured secon positions in their respective groups. Garvit in the boys group collected 5.5 points out six, while Ismail earned 5 points. There was a tough challenge among the girls as Sanskriti Yadav, Tushita, Deepanjali Srivastava of Gorakhpur and Ananya Singh Chauhan, all earned four points each out of five. The organizers then used the BOCO system to break the tie, after which Sanskriti stood first and Tushita second. Deepanjali and Ananya stood third and fourth, respectively.The organizers distributed prize money of Rs 15000 equally among top five boys and top five girls. The winners and runners in both groups received Rs 3000 and 2000 each from the chief guest A K Raizada, secretary of UP chess ssociation and Amarjeet Bhatia, manager of the school.Raizada later announced that the top two boys and girls would represent the state in the national championship slated to be held at Jharkhand in November 2023. The UP chess association will bear all the expanses of four players .Meenu Gosai, principal of the host school delivered vote of thanks to all guests, participants and officials of Kanpur Chess Association (KCA).
