Dreaded criminal held following encounter

Kanpur: After an encounter, police arrested a hardcore criminal who had allegedly looted jewellery and cash worth Rs 20 lakh from a jeweller a couple of weeks ago. The breakthrough was made in Kunwarpur Janu village in the Chhibramau Kotwali police area of Kannauj district.The criminal got injured after being shot in the leg by the police while his aide managed to escape.The police have admitted the injured criminal, identified as Deepak Kashyap, to the district hospital. More than 22 criminal cases have been registered against the accused. A gold chain, a bike, a pistol and three live cartridges have been recovered from the arrested criminal.Ramji Verma alias Anil, resident of mohalla Tiwariyan of Chhibramau Kotwali area, has a bullion shop on Sikanderpur- Bajaria road. While going home on a bike after closing his shop on Oct 17 evening, Ramji was robbed of cash and valuables by two motorcycle borne miscreants near Akbarpur village.SP Amit Kumar Anand said a case has been registered against the criminal. On late Sunday night, when a police team in Kunwarpur Janu was patrolling the area, two suspects riding a bike were spotted. When the cops tried to stop them, they started firing at them. In retaliation one among the suspects got injured by a bullet. Shewale alleged that an article in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana was defamatory, claiming he had business interests in Karachi, Pakistan. The court has adjourned the matter to November 9 for recording of evidence. Shewale refuted the allegations and stated that they were an attempt to damage his reputation and political career. He also accused Saamana of spreading fake propaganda and false stories.
