Kanpur: The health department launched its special vaccination drive from City Inter School, Machharia Naubasta, on Thursday. Students of government and private schools will be vaccinated in order to prevent them from tetanus-diphtheria (TD) and diphtheria-pertusis (whooping cough) and tetanus (DPT) diseases.District immunisation officer U B Singh, inaugurated the campaign.students from 5-to-16 years of age were vaccinated at Intermediate and other schools in the city.Addressing students and teachers he said diphtheria was an infectious disease in childrenbetween the ages of 2 and 10 years caused by infection from a bacteria called Corynebacterium diphtheria. It occurs when children take objects like pens and pencils in their mouth and it spreads to other children through the mucus.He said this special school-based vaccination campaign would be organised at government and private schools, except on Wednesday and Saturday.The immunisation officer stated that children up to 5 years old studying in class 1 were being covered with the DPT second booster dose, while children up to 10 years old studying in class 5 were being covered with TD first dose, children up to 16 years studying in class 10 were being covered with TD booster dose.Chief medical officer Alok Ranjan said that for prevention and protection of diphtheria, a special campaign had been started to vaccinate school going children with DPT and TD and it would be conducted in all government and private sector schools of the district till November 10.We also published the following articles recentlySpeeding truck hits school van, injures four children in UPs BareillyA speeding truck collided with a school van in Deorania, Bareilly district, injuring four children aged between 8 and 10.
