Dog lover in Hamirpur throws ‘Chhatti’ feast for 9 pups of her pet

Kanpur: A dog lover from Merapur locality of Bhilawa town in Uttar Pradeshs Hamirpur district, Rajkali, threw a party for all the residents of the area – over 400 – to celebrate the birth of nine puppiesof her pet Chutney. The feast was hosted to mark the sixth day of the birth of puppies that is celebrated as Chhatti in Indian families. Rajkali believes that ever since she got her pet, financial and health conditions of the family have improved drastically.The villagers were not only served vegetarian delicacies, a song and dance programme was also organised for which professional artistes were engaged.The lane leading to Rajkalis house was all decked up with colourful buntings and decorative lights on both sides. All the traditional Chhatti rituals were duly followed as village women gathered at Rajkalis house to sing sohars (folk songs recited on childbirth) and a coat of alta (traditional red dye) was applied to the paws of the dog and all its puppies.The party created quite a buzz in the area as people from nearby villages also dropped in to click selfies with the dog and its puppies.Chutney has proved very lucky for us in terms of both health and wealth. Even earlier, the dog had given birth, but to three or four puppies. This time, there were nine. The birth of this shark pup adds to the diversity of life within the zoo. The pup is currently two months old and measures approximately 6 inches. When fully grown, it could reach a size of 2-3 feet. The shark pup has been eating well and will soon be visible to visitors at the zoo.
