500 peddlers expected to participate in table tennis championship

Kanpur: As many as 500 peddlers, including some international players from all corners of the state, will be taking part in 70th Sports Hub-Stag Global UP State Cash Money Table Tennis championship to be held at TSH indoor stadium from November 16 to November 18. A prize money of Rs 2.5 lakh will be distributed among winners and runners-up of 14 events, said Sanjeev Pathak, president of UP State Table Tennis Association and PK Srivastava, director, operations.Addressing media persons Sanjeev Pathak said the state association has given top seeding to Sarth Mishra and Aarti Chaudhary in the mens and womens sections respectively.Satyam Giri of Kanpur has got the fourth seed in the mens section. Kanpur is fielding around 20 TT players and ten out of them were seeded in their respective groups. The championship will be organized in the under-11,13,15,17,19, men and women singles and doubles in men & women groups. Rahul Prakash, an international umpire of Lucknow, will be chief referee of the championship, he said.On November 17 evening, UP Association would facilitate those players who had given name to UP at the national and international level. The chief guest of the function will be Kamlesh Mehta, an Arjun awardee and secretary of All India Table Tennis Association and Prakash Pal, regional president of BJP. Avnish Awasthi, advisor to the chief minister will be the chief guest at the inaugural function while Satyadev Pachauri, MP, will be the chief guest at the prize distribution function, said Sanjay Tandon.
