17 students, driver hurt as school van crashes into pole

Kanpur: Eighteen people, including 17 students, were injured as a school van crashed into an electric pole in Konch town of Jalaun district on Wednesday.The driver of the van, an employee of Suraj Gyan Public School, lost control over the vehicle and it crashed into an electric pole near Jailiya bypass, police said.The van was on its way to school with 17 children onboard at the time of the incident.Seventeen students and the bus driver who had sustained minor injuries were taken to a nearby Community Health Centre. Three among them were referred to the Jhansi medical college. SDM Atul Kumar, CO Ram Singh reached the spot with heavy police force. As soon as the information was received, district magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and SP Iraj Raja also reached the spot and took note of the situation.Circle Officer City Ram Singh said, Preliminary investigations have revealed that the driver was wearing earphones. Three children who sustained wounds of grievous nature have been referred to the Jhansi medical college.
