Impostor posing as IAF officer arrested

Kanpur: In a joint operation, the air force intelligence and the Special Task Force arrested a man for duping youths in the name of providing recruitment in the Indian Air Force, from Rail Bazar area of the city on Tuesday. The accused used to dupe unemployed youths by posing as an IAF squadron leader. The police have identified the accused as Rahul Rajput, a native of Unnao and have recovered a large number of fake seals and forged documents from his possession.A case has been registered against him under sections 420/140/170/419/467/468 and 471 of the IPC at the Rail Bazar police station. According to the sources, Rahul has duped more than 100 people on the pretext of providing them IAF jobs. The fraudster had collected vital information about the IAF during his stay in Delhi and used the same information to cheat people. In Kanpur, he often used to stay at a hotel in Rail Bazar area, said the police. During interrogation, Rahul revealed that he always wanted to work in the Air Force. But when he did not get the job, he started duping people in the name of the IAF jobs, said the investigator.He extorted over lakhs of rupees from his victims and gave fake joining letters to many of them, said the police. He used to charge Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh from each youth in the name of providing job. Four bank accounts have been found in his name.According to the STF inspector, the accused, who is intermediate pass out, underwent training under the Kaushal Vikas Yojana and has also done a computer course. The gang would gather in a hideout in Vaishali after committing the crimes and used portable signal jammers to obstruct mobile connectivity. They sold the stolen jewellery in Nepal.
