IAF drill & air show mesmerise audience

Kanpur: Three canopy Trio formations made by paratroopers mesmerized the gathering assembled at Chakeri Air force station at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of 1 Base Repair Depot Chakeri on Friday.The three paratroopers carrying red, white and green colour parachutes jumped from AN-32 plane from a height of 9,000 feet one by one and joined each other in the air one above each other giving an impression of the National tricolour fluttering in the air.After landing before the chief guest they separated and landed perfectly amidst clappings. The three paratroopers were RS Randhava, AA Baidya, and R D Mishra.The platinum jubilee celebrations commenced with the sky diving display of nine-member Akash Ganga team led by group captain Vivek Dubey. The paratroopers presented a sole landing and later two canopy formations by Anil Kumar and Mahesh Kumar.Earlier, the event was inaugurated by chief guest Air Marshal Vibhas Pandey, Air officer Commanding in chief Maintenance Command, Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Kanpur along with Group Captain Deepak Namdev, Commanding Officer of 1 Base Repair Depot.The IIT-Kanpur students also presented their startup project drone display on the occasion. They flew as many as nine drones including a master drone controlling the remaining eight. Airmens Air Warrior Drill l was again stunning. The team made various formations with 303 rifles used in 1942 World War and each one was of around 5 kg weight.The soldiers performed drill with their rifles. Nitish, in his solo performance, rotated the rifle on fingers like a fan. The air show concluded with a fabulous display of victory formation by AN-32 aircraft.Later, the air base team displayed AN- 32 in dismantles, repaired and ready to fly forms and one Avero plane —HS 748.AOC MK Praveen, in his welcome address, stated the brief history of the air base. The air base, established on August 9, 1948, is one of the oldest air bases, said the AOC. The depot has a rich heritage of servicing many aircraft like Spitfire, Prentice, Austar, Harvard, Otter, Bell Helicopter, Vampire, Toofani, Mystere, Avro, Hunter and presently the AN-32 aircraft.While addressing the gathering, Air Marshal Vibhas Pandey stated that the base had a very rich history. In the very first instance it had repaired out of order B-2 Bomber planes left by the British forces and most of them were were reused. Though now they were out of service. The base had repaired Hunters Avero and other planes and was now repairing AN -32 flying birds.Praising the efforts of depot engineers he said that AN-32 were inducted in 1982 though they were developed and used by the USSR army in the 1960s. Initial life of the plane was estimated 15 years but the depot engineers extended its life first for ten years and later fifteen more years.Later, he released a special day cover on this occasion in the presence of Air Commodore MK Praveen and Deepak Namdev. After the celebration, he visited all the offices of the depot and applauded the efforts of the air warriors for achieving technical excellence. President Air Force Family Welfare Association (Regional) Ruchira Pande along with President AFWWA (Local) Megha Praveen also attended various functions of AFWWA ventures including programmes at Umeed Asha Kiran, Umeed Vidya Kiran and Bachpan School, inauguration of Skating Rink at Air Force School and inauguration of regimental shops at AFWWA complex.
