Absconding murder accused arrested

Kanpur: A murder accused, who had been absconding for the past 15 years, was nabbed by the Etawah police on Thursday.Mahendra Pathera (38) was wanted by the Etawah police in a 2009 murder case which was registered at the Ikdil police station in Etawah on May 12, 2009. Mahendra, the fourth accused in the case, facing murder charges, was also carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, the police said.Mahendra along with three others had killed a minor son of Sattar Ali over some kind of dispute, the police said.Later, on the complaint of Sattar, police had lodged an FIR against the four accused, including Mahendra.Police had arrested three accused and sent them to jail. However, Mahendra was absconding, said SSP Etawah Sanjay Kumar Verma.The accused was living in Chitrakoot and Madhya Pradeshs Satna and Delhi by changing his identity. Anwar Ali, the prime accused, was arrested in connection with the destruction of the temple. During the preliminary interrogation, Anwar disclosed that he had hidden a gun at a house in Barman Basti. The police recovered the weapon but Anwar attempted to flee, resulting in the police firing at him. Anwar is currently receiving treatment at Karimganj civil hospital.
