Kanpur: Swastik Chikaras fine century and his 169 runs union with Priyam Garg helped UP beat Himachal Pradesh by 7 wickets in Vijay Hazare cricket tournament being played at Mahajan Cricket ground Chandigarh on Saturday.Himachal Pradesh scored 276 runs in 50 overs. UP successfully chased the target in 37 overs. Swastik Chikara who had earned name and fame in UP T-20 league by hitting three successive centuries opened the innings with Madhav Kaushik and began his career in the board trophy with a century.Madhav (28) and Swastik opened the innings with 49 runs partnership for the first wicket.Outgoing batsman was Madhav who contributed 28 runs hitting 2 boundaries and 2 sixes in 29 balls. Swastik thereafter in union with Priyam Garg executed a 169 runs partnership for the second wicket in 24 overs. Bowler Vaibhav G Arora broke their union claiming Priyam for 74 runs. He had earlier scalped Madhav Kushik too. Priyam contributed 74 runs in 72 balls hitting 6 boundaries and 3 sixes. Arpit Guleria thereafter got the wicket of Swastik when he bowled him for 117 runs scored in 101 balls consisting of 10 boundaries and 7 sixes.Score was now 266 for 3 and UP needed just 11 runs to win. C aptain Nitish Rana in company of Sameer Rizvi did the formality. Rana and Sameer returned unbeaten on 42 and 1 runs respectively. Rana in his aggressive batting display hit 5 boundaries and 3 sixes in 20 balls. Vaibhav Arora emerged as a successful bowler claiming 2 wickets for 71 runs.Earlier Himachal put into bat lost its top two wickets cheaply. PS Chopra and AP Vashisht combined in the middle and repaired the damage adding 47 runs in 45 balls. Chopra dropped the anchor at one end and Vashisht charged. He contributed 34 runs in this partnership. Chopra thereafter executed the best partnership for 54 runs with NR Gangta for the fourth wicket. Gangta contributed 31 runs in this union. Chopra chipped highest 61 runs in 96 balls plundering 7 boundaries. Dhawan was the second highest scorer with 48 runs. SL Verma and RR Dhawan in lower order executed a 50 runs partnership for 6 th wicket in 40 balls .
