KANPUR: A 24-year-old student at a private medical college in Bithoor was found murdered in the basement of the hostel on Sunday morning. He was last spotted in CCTV footage of the hostel late on Saturday when he held celebrations of his birthday a day late.The student, Sahil Saraswat, hailed from Mathura and was pursuing MBBS (second year) from Rama Medical College, police said.At 6.30am, a guard, Jai Singh, went to switch off the lights in the electric panel located in the basement of the hostel where he found Sahils blood-soaked body.The guard alerted the college authorities who informed the police. A forensic team reached the spot and collected evidence.According to forensic team members, the victim had sustained multiple injuries on his body. They added that he was probably hit by a heavy object. A broken liquor bottle and a cigarette box were also found in the basement.Commissioner of police, RK Swarnkar, joint commissioner (law and order) Anand Prakash Tiwari, deputy commissioner of police (west) Vijay Dhul and assistant commissioner of police, Kalyanpur, Vikas Kumar Pandey supervised the investigation.Sahil lived in MBBS Old Boys Hostel with his room partner, whos a resident of Bihar and a student of MBBS (third year).Police are questioning him and other hostel inmates. The DCP (west) said that investigations were on and Sahils family members had been informed about the incident.We are waiting for the post-mortem report for further action, he said.Police said that CCTV footage was scanned, and it was found that Sahil was last seen near his hostel on Saturday night during his late birthday celebrations, police added.
