Panel investigating ragging incident at CSA university

Kanpur: The committee formed to investigate the ragging case in Chandrashekhar Azad (CSA) University of Agriculture and Technology on Thursday interrogated junior student, who had accused his two seniors of injuring him with a knife during ragging on Monday.Meanwhile, vice-chancellor of the university Anand Kumar Singh inspected the universitys hostels on Thursday, the day on which the student, who was a victim of ragging, recorded his statement before the inquiry committee.The committee also interrogated other students for nearly three hours.The vice-chancellor also conducted a surprise inspection of Tilak and Patel hostels on Thursday.The media in-charge of the university Khalil Khan said, The committee is investigating an alleged ragging incident, and action will be taken after the committee submits its report.To recall, a BSc (first semester) student of CSA University of Agriculture & Technology had accused his two seniors of injuring him with a knife during ragging. The matter came to light on Wednesday when Ravikant complained to the CSA warden and the local police.The police registered an FIR and launched an investigation. As per the complaint, the incident had taken place on late Monday night, while he was standing outside his room, two students of BSc (seventh semester), came to his room in an inebriated state and punched and kicked him. When he tried to resist and raise the alarm, they attacked him with a knife inflicting cut wounds on his nose. Later, they even threatened to kill him, the complainant alleged.Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Aarti Singh said that the Nawabganj police had received an application on Wednesday on the basis of which a case was registered under relevant IPC sections. The SFI arts unit staged a protest demanding immediate action and the shifting of first-year students to a different hostel. The ARS recommendations on the student death case are yet to be accepted.
