IIT-Kanpur bags award for assistive tech innovations

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) has been honoured with the prestigious AssisTech Foundation (ATF) Awards 2023 for engaging in assistive technology activities. The award ceremony took place at Bengaluru, during the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) 2023 on December 2. The ATF award was presented by Minister for Information Technology, Government of Karnataka, Priyank Kharge and was received jointly by Professor Siddhartha Panda from the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT-Kanpur and Professor Braj Bhushan from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT- Kanpur. The institute featured in the assistive technology innovations and became the first-time winner in the Best AT Initiative by Educational Institutes under the enablers category of ATF Awards. Talking about the award, Professor S Ganesh, Director IIT Kanpur, said, IIT Kanpur has been working with an objective to develop more such technologies that can create an impact on society in the assistive domain and can be transformed into a product. Prof. Siddhartha Panda and team from the National Centre of Flexible Electronics (NCFlexE), IIT-K received the award for the technologies titled, Haptic smartwatch for blind and visually impaired and Single Refreshable Braille Cell Based Braille Learning Device with a Touch Sensitive. Professor Braj Bhushan and his team received the award for the invention titled Assistive Application for Children with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia (AACDD). ATF Awards is Indias first dedicated flagship awareness initiative for the Assistive Technology ecosystem. These awards aim to recognize the unsung heroes who are significantly impacting the lives of people with disabilities worldwide through the power of Assistive Technology (AT).We also published the following articles recentlyOdisha born doc receives lifetime achievement award from PGI ChandigarhOdisha-born Mukuth Minz, former senior professor at PGIMER Chandigarh, received the Lifetime Achievement award at the Golden Anniversary Summit on Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation in Chandigarh. He has performed over 3,500 kidney transplant surgeries and published 200 research papers. Minz expanded the deceased donor transplantation program and established a successful kidney-pancreas transplant program for type-I diabetics. He was awarded the Odisha Gourav Samman in 2014 and received a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Utkal University in 2017.IIT-Patna wins eastern region-1 round title of NTPC Electron QuizIIT-Patna team of Deepankar Jauhari and Kirtan Jain emerged as winners in the Eastern Region-I round of the NTPC Electron Quiz competition, 2023. The competition took place at the Chandragupta Institute of Management-Patna (CIMP) campus in Patna. The second and third positions were secured by teams from IIT-Patna and Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bodh Gaya, respectively. The top three teams will now compete in the semi-final and national finals at the NTPC Business School cum Power Management Institute (PMI) in Noida on December 6 & 7.
