Two more jewellers accuse bullion artisans of escaping with gold

Kanpur: Two fresh complaints were made at Bajaria police station on Wednesday in connection with the gold scam case.President of Kanpur Mahanagar Sarrafa Association Pankaj Arora, said, the first application has been given by a jeweller Rakesh Sharma in which he has accused Sampatrao Shivaji Lavete and his associate Mahesh Vilash Maske of escaping with 736 grams of gold belonging to him and the second application by Mehboob Khan in which he has accused both of escaping with 39.5 grams of gold.He further informed that businessman Rakesh Sharma informed the association that on Sunday night Sampatrao had contacted him and told that he had come to a shopping mall in Lucknow to shop with his family and was running short of money. After this, Rakesh transferred Rs 20,000 from his wifes account to Sampats account, and on Saturday also borrowed his scooter for local shopping, Arora added.If the police investigate his account, the location from where he had made transactions could be found, he added.We have given 48-72 hours time to Kanpur Commissionerate, if it fails to achieve result, then the association will decide its next course of action, Arora further said and added, The live footage that the police have obtained is of Sampat escaping on a scooter the same one that Rakesh had given him for shopping.Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pramod Kumar said, We will include all applications in the investigation. To recall, two bullion artisans, working for decades, have allegedly swindled 2.6 kg of gold and Rs 1 crore from 16 jewellers in the city. The matter came to light after the Bullion Traders Association alerted the Joint Commissioner of Police on Tuesday, asking him to register an FIR and form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to arrest the swindlers.
