KANPUR: Once lucky. Twice lucky, but not the third time. A man who attempted to exchange wedding vows for the third time with a bride was caught red-handed and thrashed.Later, the groom along with other 'baraatis', were allegedly held hostage by the girl's family before the two sides reached an amicable solution.A high drama ensued at a marriage function at Lewa village under the limits of Sisolar police station in Hamirpur district after the bride claimed that the man she was supposed to get married, was attempting third marriage , and created ruckus, before brand stopped the ceremony on Monday night.Amid the chaos, village elders reached the venue and called for a 'panchayat'. Later the groom, who is a native of Urdana village of the same district, confessed to his mistake.Eyewitnesses said at around 10 pm, the groom Parshuram along with the guests reached the marriage pandal for the 'phera' ceremony. Even as the proceedings were underway, someone whispered something in bride Chandni's ears. Furious Chandni threw away the 'Jaimaal' and walked out of the venue. When members of bride's family came to know that the groom was attempting to get married for the third time, they caught hold of Parshuram and started beating him up, they added.The man even tried to flee, but could not do so as the members of bride side got hold of him. Later the man told 'panchayat' that he was already married to two women earlier."We never thought that he would cheat us like this and solemnize third marriage. We came to know about his marriage from some of his relatives accompanying the 'baraat', they even showed us the previous marriages albums to us," added a relative of the girl.However, no police complaint was lodged.SHO Sisolar M Khan confirmed that there was a dispute over the third marriage. "None of the parties reached police station with any complaint. It seems, the two sides amicably resolved the issue," he said.
