PAU holds webinar on World Soil Day

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana December 7The Department of Extension Education and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Noormahal Jalandhar Punjab Agricultural University celebrated World Soil Day on December 5 under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education. Over 400 farmers and students participated in the webinar. In his welcome remarks Dr Kuldeep Singh Head Department of Extension Education-cum- Associate Director KVK Jalandar shed light on the importance of World Soil Day. He also acquainted the participants with the theme - 'Keep soil alive protect soil biodiversity.'Soil scientist Arpandeep Kaur Boparai urged farmers to get soil tested for improving soil health and highlighted the benefits of judicious use of fertilisers. Dr Lavleesh Garg Extension Scientist encouraged the farmers to strengthen their ties with the KVKs and Skill Development Centre PAU and participate in trainings conducted by them.

She also dwelt upon the symptoms of NPK deficiency in wheat crop. Dr Ritu Raj Assistant Professor Plant Pathology explained major diseases in wheat crop. While addressing the farmers Rupinder Chandel Assistant Professor Farm Machinery and Power Engineering advised the farmers to adopt straw management technologies such as PAU Happy Seeder and Super SMS for in-situ management of paddy straw. Dr Lavleesh Garg Extension Scientist encouraged the farmers to strengthen their ties with the KVKs and Skill Development Centre PAU and participate in trainings conducted by them.
