Tribune News Service Ludhiana December 8 Full support was given to protesting farmers by industrialists and traders here in the city. To show that the business community was with the farmers in this hour of crisis most of the business establishments remained shut. Be it factories or shops in leading markets everything was closed today. Even the transport came to a standstill to express solidarity towards the farming community. While the majority of the factories in Focal Point and the Industrial Area were shut a few employers who tried to reach their workplace after 11 am were not allowed as roads were blocked at a few points. One of the factory owners said since there would be no dispatch today due to the non-movement of transport in-house tailors will continue with the work though it will not be as regular days. “We are not allowing any visitor to visit the unit as it is locked from outside. A few tailors wanted to continue the work hence we allowed them” the owner said. Mohinder Aggarwal from the Vyopar Mandal said they stand with the farmers and it was a respect towards them. Sonu Nilibar from Nilibar Mall Road said lakhs of farmers were braving the chill in these severe weather conditions. “Today they had called for Bharat Bandh. We have shut our premises as a mark of respect towards the farmers. We support them and want that recently introduced farm Acts be withdrawn” Nilibar said. Meanwhile the Karkhana Mazdoor Union also sat on a protest dharna at Samrala Chowk to express their support towards farmers. Rajwinder Singh president of the union said farmers must not be exploited by the government and their protest was justified. Organisations such as the Federation of Commercial and Industrial Organisation (FICO) and the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertaking have already lent support to the farmers by announcing that units under them would be shut.
