Tribune News Service Ludhiana December 8 Continuing its drive against online criminals the Ludhiana police have busted another gang involved in cyber crimes. The gang was duping people on the pretext of doubling their money. The booked persons are Pritma Devi and Gaurav Kumar of Uttar Pradesh. The complainant Amir Vohra had told the police that he had placed an advertisement on the OLX to sell old furniture. He got a call from an unknown person who expressed his desire to buy the furniture listed online. Vohra said the deal was finalised for Rs 4000 and before making payment these persons sent a QR code to him on his Whatsapp number. The accused said he had sent Re 1 to him and a click on the link would double the money immediately. “When I sent Re 1 to the accused I immediately received Rs 2 in my account. Later I was lured by the accused who told me to send as much money and the money would be doubled. I was cheated of Rs 1.71 lakh” the complainant alleged. The complainant said when the accused was told to refund his money the accused again sent a QR code to him and assured him that the money would be refunded but each time he clicked on the link money got deducted from his Google Pay account. Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said when the cyber wing started probe the role of the two accused was found and they were booked.
