4 Dead, 7 Critically Injured as Factory Roof Collapses in Ludhiana

A two-storey auto parts factory in Ludhiana`s Baba Mukand Singh Nagar collapsed on Monday morning while lifting up of the lintel with the help of a jack was going on.

A two-storey auto parts factory in Ludhiana`s Baba Mukand Singh Nagar collapsed on Monday morning while lifting up the lintel with the help of a jack was going on. Four labourers died in this accident while 40 were injured. Seven of them are in critical condition. Currently, six labourers are feared trapped in the debris, authorities are working is on their evacuation. The police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the factory owner Jaswinder Singh and the lifting contractor Mohammad Haroon, both the accused are absconding.

According to the information, Jasmail Singh & Sons has an old auto parts factory in Mukand Singh Nagar. The work of lifting the second floor of the factory with the help of 40 jacks was going on, while more than 40 labourers were working at the site. The roof of the first floor of the factory collapsed at around ten in the morning. This led to the collapse of the entire 15-year-old building. Due to this, all the workers got buried in the rubble.

44 labourers have been evacuated from the debris while four of them lost their lives. Three deceased have been identified as Mohammad Mustakin (40), Sagar Kumar (45), Imtiaz and Picchu, residents of Bihar.

DC Varinder Sharma and Commissioner of Police Rakesh Aggarwal also reached the spot as soon as they got information about the accident. Meanwhile, rescue teams NDRF and SDRF have been called. At the same time, the administrative officials also do not know how many people were working and how many people are trapped in the rubble.

CM ordered an inquiry
Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered a magistrate inquiry into the accident.
