Tribune News Service Ludhiana June 26 The Khanna polices special campaign against drugs has led to the arrest of 37 smugglers along with a huge recovery of drugs. This is the result of the ongoing drive against drugs launched by the Punjab Police. The SSP Gursharandeep Singh Grewal told The Tribune that the police have registered 32 cases under the NDPS Act since June 15 and recovered 32 kg of poppy husk 22670 intoxicant tablets/capsules 244 gram of intoxicant powder 818 gram of heroine 38 gram of smack 10 injections 10 syrup bottles 3 kg of ganja and Rs 40000 drug money from the 37 arrested persons. The SSP added that during the campaign 80 search operations were carried out in various areas of the Khanna police district to recover drugs and to nab smugglers. The police drive also led to the arrest of seven proclaimed offenders and absconders booked under the NDPS Act. The SSP revealed that to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking the Khanna police also conducted a drug awareness rally and a cycle march. The rally passed through the main service lane of GT Road of the city like Amloh chowk Lalheri chowk Malerkotla chowk and culminated at the SSP Office. The SSP also interacted with the youth and urge them to shun drugs and adopt a healthy lifestyle. In this drive the Khanna police also organised 94 awareness seminars at various places in the police district to sensitise the youth on the ill-effects of drugs on society.
