Army helicopter crashes near Pathankot in Punjab, Lt colonel and captain missing

Due to the high depth of the dam, the rescue operation is facing difficulties. This dam is located 30 km from Pathankot in Punjab.

A Dhruv helicopter of the Army`s 254 Aviation Squadron crashed on Tuesday morning while patrolling the Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir border in Pathankot`s Ranjit Sagar Dam lake. At the same time, the Lieutenant Colonel and Captain aboard the helicopter are missing. The rescue operation was going on in the lake even till 6 pm. Apart from Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir Police, teams of Army, SDRF and NDRF have been engaged in the rescue operation.

Due to the high depth of the dam, the rescue operation is facing difficulties. This dam is located 30 km from Pathankot in Punjab.

This accident happened around 10.20 am today i.e. Tuesday morning. The Dhruv helicopter of the Army`s Aviation Squadron had taken off from Mamoon Cantt. The helicopter was patrolling near Ranjit Sagar Dam during the accident. It fell straight into the dam after hitting a hill. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has expressed grief over the incident by tweeting.

According to military sources, helicopters of Mamoon Cantonment patrol daily around the lake, located on the Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir border. The said helicopter came out for patrol but got into an accident.
