more-in TIRUNELVELI Appealing to Collector Sandeep Nanduri not to give permission for taking out the Sree Ramadasa Mission Universal Society’s ‘Ram Rajya Rath Yatra’ via Tirunelveli, members of Manithaneya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam submitted a petition during the weekly grievance day meet held at the Collectorate on Monday. It may be noted that the ‘People’s Confederation Against Saffron Terrorism’ also submitted a similar petition in this connection to the Collector on Monday last. The petitioners led by the MMMK president ‘Palai’ Rafiq, who submitted the petition to the Collector after staging demonstration at the main entrance of the Collectorate for a while, said the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which had established the Sree Ramadasa Mission Universal Society for taking out the yatra with the objective of creating ‘Ram Rajya’ in India, had planned to enter Tamil Nadu from Punalur in Kerala via Shencottai in the district on March 20. After starting the ‘Rath Yatra’ at Uttar Pradesh on February 13, the Sree Ramadasa Mission Universal Society had scheduled to visit Virudhunagar via Shencottai and again a few parts of Tirunevleli before leaving for Kanniyakumari from where the ‘yatra’ will enter Thiruvananthapuram. “When a similar ‘yatra’ was taken out in the 1990’s, the procession triggered panic at several places owing to the slogans raised by the processionists and consequently caused clashes in these places and claimed a few hundred innocent lives. Moreover, several crores of rupees worth properties were then destroyed by the rioters,” said Mr. Rafiq.
