MADURAIThe controversial wall in Santhaiyur near Peraiyur here, which has been the cause of tension between two Scheduled Caste communities in the village for the past several months, was slightly damaged by unidentified persons on Thursday night. The Paraiyar community, who constructed the wall around a temple on poramboke land, has maintained that it was erected only to fence the temple. The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has already directed the district administration to take action in accordance with law by saying that the wall was an encroachment on poramboke land. But the Arunthathiyar community has called it an ‘untouchability’ wall to prevent access to the land under common use. According to police sources, two rows of bricks were demolished partially on one side of the compound wall.
