‘1500 metric tonnes of sulphuric acid evacuated’

ThoothukudiCollector Sandeep Nanduri on Saturday said that nearly 1500 metric tonnes of sulphuric acid has been evacuated so far. The Collector said that 85 tank trucks of acid had been removed. The decision to remove other chemicals and substances from the plant would be taken based on the report, he said. The remaining acid would be completely removed in a day, he added. Mr. Nanduri said that a "high-level committee" comprising officials from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, retired professors from the Anna University and Indian Institute of Technology - Madras, and officials from the Inspectorate of Factories, that inspected the plant, would submit a report.
