I-Day message: civic body chief distributes cloth bags, coupons

The Commissioner distributed prizes to students who won various State-level competitions held by American Indian Foundation on digital education and financial literacy. The Corporation, in association with hoteliers, had recently announced discounts and gifts for members of the public who bring their own cloth bags, or utensils while buying food parcels. As per the announcement, these consumers will get 5% discount on purchase above ?20 and special gift coupons on purchase above ?100. Civic officials said the coupons, which were scratch cards, could be exchanged at the Corporation offices for gifts.

Ashok more-in In a bid to ensure full compliance with the ban on single use plastic coming into force across the State from January 1, 2019, Corporation Commissioner Aneesh Sekhar distributed cloth bags to representatives from different hotels in the city during the Independence Day celebration on Wednesday. He also distributed prize coupons to them. The Corporation, in association with hoteliers, had recently announced discounts and gifts for members of the public who bring their own cloth bags, or utensils while buying food parcels. As per the announcement, these consumers will get 5% discount on purchase above ?20 and special gift coupons on purchase above ?100. Civic officials said the coupons, which were scratch cards, could be exchanged at the Corporation offices for gifts. Earlier, Dr. Aneesh Sekhar hoisted the national flag at the Corporation premises, which was followed by cultural performances by students from Corporation-run schools in the city. Students from Ponmudiyar Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School performed a skit to create awareness on the importance of avoiding the use of plastics. The Commissioner distributed prizes to students who won various State-level competitions held by American Indian Foundation on digital education and financial literacy. He also felicitated students who participated in the cultural performances by distributing certificates and gifts.
