Postal staff take out rally to create awareness of scheme

Employees of the Postal department, Madurai Division, took a rally on Collectorate Road on Wednesday. MGNREGA and pension wages will also be distributed under the banking scheme, said a press statement from the Postal department. Also, the scheme has doorstep banking to reach reach larger areas. Operations in Madurai will first begin at the Tallakulam branch, N. Shriharsha, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Madurai Division, said.

IPPB will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country on August 21. IPPB will be a part of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, a financial inclusion scheme. The main aim of the scheme is to reach out to rural areas and it is also in the interest of small-time traders. Also, the scheme has doorstep banking to reach reach larger areas. Operations in Madurai will first begin at the Tallakulam branch, N. Shriharsha, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Madurai Division, said. The scheme boasts of doorstep banking facility, which is aimed at reaching out to rural areas and those who cannot frequent post office counters to avail the facilities. Postmen will play a major part in the doorstep banking facility, he added. Telecom, electricity, DTH bills, insurance and even registered posts and speed posts can be paid under the scheme. MGNREGA and pension wages will also be distributed under the banking scheme, said a press statement from the Postal department.
