The other members in the VC Search Panel are Nageshwar Rao, VC of Indira Gandhi National Open University, who is the Governor-Chancellor’s nominee and M. Anandakrishnan, former VC of Anna University, who was chosen as the nominee of the Senate. N. Markandan, former VC of Gandhigram Rural Institute, and K. Meena, former VC of Bharatidasan University, were the two nominations. However, the authorities reportedly pointed out that Mr. Markandan had tendered resignation from the Planning Board before filing his nomination for contesting the election for Syndicate nominee. The two Syndicate members pointed out that Mr. Markandan was appointed as a member of the Planning Board of MKU, constituted in October 2017, during the tenure of P.P. Before the Madras High Court’s order, the three-member Search Committee had issued a notification inviting applications for the post of VC from interested persons.
