Sagayam asked to submit documents

The Madras High Court today directed IAS officer U. Sagayam, the legal Commissioner appointed by the court to inspect various types of mining activities in the State, to submit the related documents to the Registrar General of the court. Mr. Sagayam had, on November 23, 2016, submitted copies of the 600-page report along with supporting documents to the Madras High Court. The Registrar General is directed to keep the same in safety custody in a sealed box. The aforesaid amount shall be released at the earliest and in any case before July 31, 2017. The judges directed that the annexure to the report of the Commission dated November 23, 2015, and the errata dated April 1, 2016 be handed over to the Registrar General of the court.

When a petition filed by a retired tahsildar, who had worked under the legal commissioner, seeking payment of salary came up before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar, the bench passed the order. The judges directed that the annexure to the report of the Commission dated November 23, 2015, and the errata dated April 1, 2016 be handed over to the Registrar General of the court. The Registrar General is directed to keep the same in safety custody in a sealed box. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 31. Mr. Sagayam had, on November 23, 2016, submitted copies of the 600-page report along with supporting documents to the Madras High Court. Salary issue On the issue of the salary to be paid to the retired tahsildar, Advocate General R. Muthukumaraswany appeared on behalf of the State government and agreed to pay ?20,000 per month to him from December 1, 2016 to July 31, 2017, that is ? 1.60 lakh for eight months. The aforesaid amount shall be released at the earliest and in any case before July 31, 2017.
