Madurai Police crack whip against traffic violations

Sending a strong signal that violations of of traffic rules and regulations would invite stern action as per Motor Vehicles Act, Transport Department Joint Commissioner V. Balan said that in August alone, more than 6,500 driving licences were suspended. Following new regulations and guidelines in the MV Act, the officials, in coordination with the police, were conducting vehicle checks across the city and neighbouring districts of Madurai.The violations include: not possessing original driving licence, not wearing helmet by two-wheeler riders and seat belts by car drivers, overloading in commercial vehicles, talking on mobile phone while driving.
