The officials responsible for maintenance of roads should attend to repairs on a war footing, said Revenue Minister R.B. Udayakumar here on Wednesday. Inspecting some of the roads and water bodies in the city and in Thirumangalam, he said complaints from road users should be taken note of and all officers should ensure that at least patch-work was carried out. Once the rains stopped, the roads could be laid in a proper manner. When he visited the hospitals, where students from Madurai Kamaraj University were engaged in cleaning, Mr. Udayakumar said by keeping the wards clean, half of the problems pertaining to diseases would be solved. Hence, public had the responsibility of keeping the space around them clean. The Minister, who received petitions at the Thirumangalam Taluk office, urged officials to expedite them on merit basis. When convinced about the genuineness of an applicant, those who applied for Old Age Pension, particularly, should not be made to run from pillar to post, he said.
