more-in Three persons were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident near Mangalapuram bus stop on Kollam-Madurai highway road at Kadayanallur on Saturday. A van, in which they were travelling, collided with a cement-laden truck, at a turning near Mangalapuram at around 5.30 a.m., sources said. The victims were on their way back home at Kadayanallur after sending off a relative at Thiruvananthapuram airport on Friday night. While S. Manikandaraman (28) of Achanpudur, the van driver, died on the spot, the other two victims — Saibu Nisha (30), wife of Kaja Mohideen, Kadayanallur, and A. Mohammed Rafik (8) of Kadayanallur, who were admitted to Tenkasi Government Hospital, died. Police personnel and revenue officials inspected the spot. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Kadayanallur rushed to the spot and took the victims to the Tenkasi Government Hospital. The site was accident-prone, sources said. Among the injured victims, seven were men and three others were women. Of these victims, six were under treatment in Tenkasi Government Hospital and four others in Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, the sources said. Based on a complaint lodged by Fathima Beevi (49), wife of Mohammed Mydheen, Kadayanallur, one of the injured, Kadayanallur police have filed a case.
