NMC steps up heat on smart corp for poor road condition

Nashik: The city municipal corporation is upset with the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation (NMSCDCL) over repairs on a one-km stretch of road, from the traffic signal near NMC headquarters Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan to Veer Savarkar swimming pool along Trimbak Road in Nashik city.The deplorable condition of the road has invited the wrath of residents and motorists using this stretch. The potholes have surfaced on this road from Bafna jewelry shop to Veer Savarkar swimming pool in Trimbak Road of the city.NMSCDCL was laying water pipelines on this stretch, and it was the responsibility of the smart city corporation to repair the road. However, no repairs have been carried out, and the road has been further damaged after heavy September showers.To date, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has written four letters to the NMSCDCL in a bid to draw their attention to this road. NMC officials said that the road, which falls under the purview of NMSCDCL, is in pathetic condition after it had been dug up to lay pipes.According to the officials, in their most recent letter to NMSCDCL, they have said that if the repairs are not done, the civic body will appoint a contractor to undertake the repairs, and NMSCDCL will have to foot the bill. Moreover, NMC has also given an ultimatum of seven days for the repairs.NMSCDCL CEO Sumant More admitted to receiving the letters from NMC and said that the repairs will be undertaken on a priority basis. We had undertaken the laying of water distribution pipelines in the area, but we did not repair the roads as the pipelines needed to be tested. We are expecting that the testing will be completed within a fortnight, and the road work will start immediately thereafter. Tourism has declined in Calangute due to the bad roads, and the panchayat members are calling for action before the new tourist season begins.252 out of 285 dug up roads in Madipakkam repaired: Chennai Corporation commissionerThe Greater Chennai Corporation has repaired 252 out of 285 roads in Madipakkam that were dug up by Chennai Metropolitan and Sewerage Supply Board. Over 16.4 km of road stretch has been fixed so far, with blacktopping, concrete, and wet mix macadam used to repair different sections. The remaining 33 roads are still undergoing repairs.Finish road repair before Dussehra: DCThe divisional commissioner of Lucknow has directed officials to expedite road repairs before Dussehra. The public works department and Lucknow Municipal Corporation have been instructed to ensure all roads in their jurisdiction are fixed. Progress has been made, with 68% of budgeted construction completed and repair work on 126 out of 252 roads finished. Additionally, measures to mitigate waterlogging challenges and increase pumping station capacity are being explored. In other news, road repair projects are being undertaken in Panchkula, Raipur, and Delhi. Tourists in Calangute, Goa are urging the state government to repair bad roads.
