Action plan soon to implement speed-reducing measures

Nashik: The public works department (PWD) of the civic body is preparing an action plan to implement the suggestions made for reducing the speed of vehicles at the 26 accident black spots in the city.The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has already appointed a contractor for doing the ground work as suggested by the deputy engineers of the PWD from all the six divisions. After the horrific bus accident at Hotel Mirchi Chowk on the Nashik-Aurangabad Road in October last year that had claimed 13 lives, the civic body had roped in an NGO, Resilient India, to conduct a traffic survey of all the accident black spots of the city. Accordingly, the NGO carried out the survey and recommended the civic body to undertake speed-reducing measures.An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said the civic body has already issued a work order to the contractor, but the work could not begin due to monsoon. Now, the work is all set to begin from first week of November, the official said. The NMC has also made a provision of Rs 2.5 crore to undertake the speed-reducing measures like installation of the speed-breakers, rumblers, signages, among others. The tools will also assess applications for eligibility, identifying routine cases for streamlined processing. The IRCC highlighted that the tools do not refuse applications, and only an officer can make that decision. India has become the top source of new permanent residents for Canada, contributing over 27% of the total in 2022.PWD contractors threaten to stop work over duesA contractors association in New Delhi is going on strike and halting all road maintenance work due to non-payment of dues for over five months. The city is also facing a problem with unpaid electricity bills, which may result in a blackout on roads under the Public Works Department. The contractors have repeatedly requested payment but have not received a resolution. The association claims that around 400 contractors have been facing this issue for the past eight months. Additionally, a contractor providing manpower for cleaning the revamped Chandni Chowk stretch has decided to pull out due to non-payment since July.
