Nashik: The defunct traffic signals at Pathardi Phata and Makhmalabad Junction have now been made operational by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).The non-functioning of the traffic lights led to traffic snarls at these two points on a regular basis. The Pathardi Phata signal is the second traffic light after Dwarka signal that has been made operational on the Mumbai-Agra highway — under the elevated corridor.A senior police officer said the signal at Pathardi Phata used to witness traffic jams throughout the day owing to huge rush of vehicles. On many occasions, the motorists coming from Ambad industrial area side and those coming from Pathardi village side used to get stuck at the signals for 10 to 15 minutes and at times, the waiting period was even more, the officer said.ACP (traffic) Sachin Bari told TOI, The Pathardi Phata junction has nine roads connected to it and the flow of traffic on all these roads is constant. He added, While traffic police personnel are present to direct the flow of traffic all through the day, the situation often becomes chaotic due to the rush. Motorists are now expected to follow the traffic signal strictly. The Pathardi Phata junction on the Mumbai-Agra highway is near to the Ambad industrial area. All vehicles from Mumbai, Dhule, Sinnar and Pune side use this junction to move towards the Ambad industrial area and further. Apart from this, the highway has huge residential and commercial areas on either side. Meanwhile, many citizens have claimed that the traffic condition was similar on all the junctions on the Mumbai-Agra highway passing through the city limits.A few more traffic signals have been proposed in different parts of the city and motorists are requested to follow the traffic norms as large number of accidents occur only when rules were violated, Bari said.We also published the following articles recentlyCops tweak traffic signal timings to ease congestionThe Nagpur traffic police have started adjusting the duration of traffic signals at various times of the day in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the city.
