TB drive to screen 4 lakh in risk band

Nashik: ASHA workers started intensive door-to-door visits from Tuesday for screening of about 4 lakh people in the high-risk areas of the district for tuberculosis.The district has a population of 47 lakh. The health administration has identified the pockets that account for 10% of the population to conduct the survey to ensure zero TB cases by 2025. There are 75 slum pockets in the district where the target population for TB screening is 2.3 lakh. Till now, the office has detected 35 patients who have been put up on treatment. Dr Ravindra Chaudhary, the district TB officer said the district reports over 200 cases on average per month, with the number of TB cases in September higher than August. He said all measures were taken to ensure people get proper treatment. The government has also promised additional support, including eye check-ups and cataract surgeries. In other news, a medical health check-up camp called Mangala Swasthya Sewa Yatra is being conducted in multiple locations in Mangaluru, and the Karnataka Examinations Authority will re-allot medical seats to students in Mangaluru. A rabies awareness camp was also launched in Chennai.
