Nashik: Only the Maratha community has proven that it belongs to the backward class, and yet , it has been deprived of reservation while other communities have got reservation on the basis of numbers, said Jalna-based activist Manoj Jarange on Monday.Addressing a rally of Sakal Maratha Samaj in Yeola — the home-turf of Chhagan Bhujbal, a prominent leader from the OBC community — Jarange appealed to him to fight for the reservation of the community and not oppose it. Jarange also claimed that the OBC community had got more reservation than desired; hence re-appropriation can easily accommodate the Maratha community in it.As part of his tour of Maharashtra, Jarange addressed the members of the community in Yeola taluka of the district. He said, The study carried out by the Maharashtra State Backward Commission has concluded that the Maratha community is backward. But that was not the case for other castes and they still got reservation on demand. According to Jarange, the Mandal Commission had awarded the OBC communities 14% reservation, but in reality the communities are getting more than 14% reservation since they are also getting the benefit of the reservation meant for the EWS. Maratha community was not serious about reservation and those who understood the power of the reservation have progressed. Now the community that has always been helping people across communities in their development is asking reservation for itself. We hope the government understands this and grants the reservation, said Jarange. Jarange further stated that the government had sought 30 days from him when he was on hunger strike for declaring reservation to Maratha community, but was given 40 days. To mark the 30-day time period we are organizing a meeting of the community members at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna and all the community members should visit the village to show the unity of the community, he said.We also published the following articles recentlyGovt has no option but to give reservation to Marathas: JarangeMaratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has stated that the government now has sufficient evidence to provide reservation to the Maratha community.
