As monsoon ends, Nashik civic body starts repairs of city roads

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started repairing the damaged city roads.Municipal commissioner Ashok Karanjkar, on Tuesday, asked the public works department (PWD) of the civic body to ensure that the repairs are completed as soon as possible.According to the officials, the work for road repairs has started simultaneously in all six divisions. We started repairing potholes using tar last week. The repair works have been undertaken in all six divisions of the civic body. We aim to finish the work within the next few days, said NMC officialsThe condition of most of the roads across the city deteriorated after the heavy rains lashed the city in September, causing inconvenience to motorists.Potholes were reported on most of the roads in Cidco, Panchavati, Nashik Road, Satpur, and the other two divisions of the civic body.NMC officials said they could not do tarring work due to heavy rainfall. As a temporary measure, they filled up the potholes using murum and macadam.The civic body will also repair roads in the Ambad and Satpur industrial zones of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), located within the limits of the municipal corporation. Ambad industrial areas come under the Cidco division of the civic body. The NMC administration has started repairing roads in residential areas, but they are yet to start repairing roads in industrial estates. We had a talk with the NMC officials, and they have informed us to start the work in the next few days, said Nikhil Panchal, president, Ambad Industries & Manufacturers Association (AIMA).He said that the condition of the roads in Ambad industrial areas has degraded rapidly. This has impacted the transportation of goods as travel time from one point to another has doubled.An official from the Cidco division of the NMC said that initially they are focusing on major roads in residential areas. The remaining 33 roads are currently being fixed. City corporation commissioner Dr J Radhakrishnan returned for inspections after recovering from dengue.Work allotted after MCG took over colony, but road repairs yet to beginResidents of Ardee City in Gurgaon have raised concerns about the poor condition of internal roads. The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) had allocated funds for the repair work, but no progress has been made. The roads, which were laid over a decade ago, have developed potholes and uneven patches, causing inconvenience to residents. Complaints have been made to MCG officials, but no action has been taken. The deteriorating roads have affected traffic movement and increased dust pollution in the area. MCG officials have promised to address the issue.
