NASHIK: Twenty people onboard a private luxury bus, going from Pune to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, suffered injuries when the bus fell sideways on the Mumbai-Agra highway at 8am on Friday. An official of the Nardana police station said that the accident took place on the stretch between Nardana and Shirpur in Dhule district. The injured passengers were shifted to the Dhule civil hospital. All of them, barring a young girl, who has fractured her leg, have been discharged. The girl is still under treatment at the hospital. Sachin Bendre, assistant inspector of the Nardana police station said that all the passengers are from Uttar Pradesh and they had taken the private bus to reach Gorakhpur following the cancellation of their train. He said the accident took place near the old Nardana toll plaza on the Mumbai-Agra highway. The 40-seater luxury bus fell sideways when its driver attempted to veer the vehicle to the left to avoid collision with a container truck in front of it. The driver of the container truck had apparently applied sudden brakes.Though the bus driver tried to swerve left, due its speed, the bus fell sideways. People near the spot immediately called the police and some injured passengers were rushed to a primary health centre (PHC). Others were directly taken to the Dhule civil hospital. Even the PHC patients were later taken to civil hospital. The police said the accident did not cause a traffic jam on the highway.
