Nashik: The city police arrested five criminals who committed 13 chain robberies in the city in 2022 and 2023. The police have also recovered gold of Rs 10.8 lakh from them and a bike used for committing different chain robberies. The chain robbers are identified as Sachin Pagar(31), Nilesh Shirsath(30), Akash Khairnar(24), Niranjan Pagar(37) and Mukund Mane(50), all residents of Nashik city. Of the 13 cases of chain robberies, five were committed in the jurisdiction of the Gangapur police station, two in the Sarkarwada and Adgaon police stations and one in the jurisdiction of Panchavati, Mhasrul, Satpur and Indiranagar police stations. A senior police official said that in July 2023, a man registered a complaint with the Gangapur police station that he was robbed of his gold chain by two bike-borne persons. During the course of the investigation, the police got information that the robber was at Hadapsar in Pune. The Gangapur police and crime branch unit 2 immediately formed a team and arrested Sachin Pagar of Satpur. The men snatched her three sovereign gold chain worth 1.2 lakh while she was disposing of garbage. They punched her and fled on a bike after the incident. The suspects managed to escape despite efforts by neighbors. The Tiruvallur Taluk police are searching for the men using CCTV camera footage.
