Cops bust hookah parlour with walkie-talkie for alerts

Nashik: The city police on Thursday unearthed an illegal hookah parlour in the Mharsul area, about 100m from the main road, and seized tobacco products worth Rs 7,000.The police have intensified crackdown on illegal businesses in the city after the MD manufacturing unit was unearthed recently. According to the police, the operators of the hookah parlour were keeping an eye on who was approaching them by stationing a staffer on the main road, who used a walkie-talkie for communication. A case has been registered against the duo under sections of The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 2018, senior police inspector of the Mharsul police station, Raju Pachorkar, said.Pachorkar said that the police raided a restaurant on Mharsul-Adgaon link road after receiving information. The restaurant was situated in a farm and the closest road was around 100 meters away. The restaurant was located in a farm, away from the hustle and bustle of residential localities. The closest road from the restaurant was about 100m away, he added.Pachorkar said a few years ago, a raid was conducted on the operator after which the restaurant was closed. The district guardian minister assured that steps will be taken and announced helplines for reporting complaints. He also stated that he is open to investigation if allegations are made against him.
