Irrigation dept official gets 5-yr jail term, ₹10L fine in bribe case

Nashik: The head of the irrigation department of the Satana sub-division has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a case of bribery in 2019.The court of district and sessions judge, S. U Baghele, also slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the convict identified as Raju Ramole.A release from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nashik said that a case against Ramole was registered in 2019. A farmer had complained to the ACB that Ramole was demanding a bribe of Rs 36,000 to remove the silt from the Jokhoda dam in Baglan taluka.The farmer produced evidence in the form of a voice recording of Ramole accepting to have received Rs 11,000 from the farmer and demanding Rs 15,000 more to give permission to remove the silt.The ACB release said that on the basis of the evidence submitted by the investigating officer, PSI Mrudula Naik, and the arguments by assistant public prosecutors Mahendraw Fulpagare and S. K.
