Mumbai cops look for drugs in Girna river again; no luck till Sunday evening

Nashik: Mumbais Saki Naka police initiated another search for a cache of mephedrone, allegedly dumped into Deolas Girna river by the associates of drug accused Lalit Patil, on Sunday. However, the search was stopped later in the evening.A team of 10 personnel of the Saki Naka police came to Lohaner in Deola taluka around noon and started the search operationwith the help of local swimmers.The operation was stopped at 5.30pm. The police did not find mephedrone (MD or ecstasy) in the river, said Deola police stations assistant inspector Deepak Patil.The Saki Naka police had conducted a search operation in the Girna river on October 24 as well. That search too was wrapped up on the same evening. However, another team of the Saki Naka police recovered 12kg of MD from the hilly areas of Saraswatiwadi in Deola.On Sunday, the police initiated a fresh search as the rivers water level was lower than on October 24. Sachin Wagh, who had driven Lalit Patil from Nashik to Surat after the latters escape from Punes Sassoon General Hospital, had allegedly got the drugs dumped into the river and buried some in Saraswatiwadi. The Saki Naka police are focused on recovering the drugs that were manufactured at the illegal unit in Nashiks Shinde village. Patils associates got alerted after the police arrested a peddler in Thane with 15kg of MD.
