Transport utility to charge for extra luggage from November 1

Nashik: In a move similar to airlines, the citys transport department has decided to introduce a luggage ticket for passengers carrying extra luggage, with effect from November 1. Accordingly, passengers will be allowed to carry 10 kg luggage with them for free. But they will have to pay the cost of one ticket for each extra 10 kg of luggage.The Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (NMPML) released a statement in this connection, saying it was a part of measures taken to increase the revenue of the transport wing. The decision was taken during the meeting of the directorial board of the NMPML, with NMC commissioner Ashok Karanjkar as chairman, in September this year. But the NMPML took almost two months to introduce the luggage tickets. Earlier, it had planned to introduce the tickets from October 1, but was deferred due to technical reasons. Now, it has been officially declared. If passengers carry 40 kg luggage like vegetables, fruits, etc., then 10 kg will be free, but they will have to pay for three extra tickets, said NMPML officials.
